When beginning weight-lifting, should I start with endurance training or strength training?
The past year I’ve put on weight and lost most of my muscle to atrophy. I’m looking to whip myself back into shape again. But it’s been a while and I need to relearn some basics. I’ve gotten pretty weak, so should I start with endurance training (like 15-20 reps), or strength training (8-10 reps) ?
to build muscle you do a lot of weight and little reps. toning is littl weight at a lot of reps. first strength then endurance
What lower body strength training exercise would target/stimulate the most musculature around the most joints?
What lower body strength training exercise would target/stimulate the most musculature around the most joints? (Include hip in answer.) Explain.
The best exercise of all kinds. Butt Sex.
Why am I not sore during strength training but am very sore the next day?
I have started working out and when I am doing strength training I find that the exercises are very easy and I feel little to no "burn" when doing them. However the next day, I’m incredibly sore. Is this normal, or am I working out incorrectly?
ignore the above answer. its completely wrong. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is the body’s natural method of recovering and rebuilding. We used to think that it was a result of lactic acid release and you will hear many people who still think it is. Modern Exercise Scientific data has taught us that during intense resistance, you are breaking down microscopic muscle and connective tissue. the pain you feel the next day is the natural recovery process as you body utilizes nutrients to replenishes and rebuilds the damaged tissue. To maximize your recovery process, its important to ensure you get a quality protein and carbohydrate source. I recomend onesource optimal nutrition. Its nutritionally balanced and contains both whey and casein protein. It also has all essential amino acids to expedite recovery.

Will adding agility and plyometrics to my strength training make me faster or just overtrain me?

Do you have to eat more protein if you are strength training?
I have recently started doing training with light weights (I’m a girl). Mostly upper body and core exercises, and walk on treadmill. I have been upping the intensity of the strength training lately. I eat healthy and eat some protein (lean turkey and chicken, lean fish, nuts), but it is a smaller part of my diet. If I plan on building more muscle, should I up my percentage of daily protein in my diet? I find I can do an intense cardio session and still have energy to burn the next day. However, sometimes I feel a bit more weak and run down after I do a good strenght workout. I was wondering if this had something to do with protein intake.
Also, are protein bars any good? Which are the best? Thanks!
Yes protein is great for strength training-check out this article.

Protein bars are ok-but watch the sugar and cals. Go to vitaminshoppe.com and order Whey Protein. there are diff flavors and you can add fruit/p-nut butter to any of them for additional flavor

Do I have to do strength training in conjunction with cardio?
I just want to get rid of the fat around my chest, I have good abs, but it’s that layer of fat on top of them. I know there’s no such thing as spot reduction, so I’m doing HIIT cardio frequently. The thing is, do I have to do strength training as well to compensate for any muscle degeneration from exercising, or can I just diet well and do cardio with ab work-outs? Thanks.
Well, that is an excellent question that some people have done a good job at answering already. Being a personal trainer, I have a small piece to add to their answers. What you should do is whatever you will keep doing. If you like to do cardio do that more often. If strength training is more up your alley do that. If you like it, you will be more likely to stick with it in the long run and in turn be more healthy. Now for your specific needs. Your best results will come from strength training mixed with 2 days of 30 min cardio a week. The best way to lose weight is to gain some muscle. One lb of muscle burns about 30 more calories a day than a lb of fat, so if you put on 5 lbs of muscle from working out, you will be buring 150 more calories a day from just your normal routine. Bonus wisdom: Cardio stops burning calories when you stop running, muscle keeps growing and burning calories hours after you put down the weights. Dont stop running, but when you do hit it hard, I suggest interval running. Intervals ramps up your heart rate and gets your metabolism in gear. Good luck.
What is a good strength training workout for creative people?
I have no trouble get cardio exercise—I love walking, swimming and dancing—and I get flexibility with my belly dance routine but I can’t find any strength training exercises I like. I’m not a weight-lifting type person and I’d like more variety than just plain pushups. I’d love to find some strength training exercises that offer the same creative expression I get from dancing. Thanks in advance. ![]()
If you can find a good Judo school, you’ll have lots of fun and build some nice toned muscle groups! And since you love dancing, the steps will come very natural! There is not striking or hitting someone – just a bunch of flips, trips and throws.

What should be my ratio of cardio per strength training a week if I’m trying to get more ripped?
For months it seemed that I wasn’t achieving my results only because I wasn’t doing enough cardio. I would lift weights like 4 times a week and cardio like 2 times a week. I was bulky, and lean but not ripped at all. Would you say turn it around to get the ripped body and shoot for 4 times a week cardio and 2 times a week strength training? Do you think this is a guaranteed solution to getting ripped the way I want to?
I’m a female so this may be different to me but I do cardio every day in the morning and lift three days a week in the evening. Plus I was, and still am very careful about my diet. It took me a couple months, being I was already in shape and I started to show more definition. I now have the abs I’ve always wanted, but the key to getting ripped is to lower your body fat. So cardio and diet are key as well. There is no guaranteed solution to anything other than hard work.

How can I incorporate handstand balance training into strength training?
Apparently isometrics should be at the end of a workout before static stretching, but what if you were working on your handstand balance? That’s at least mostly isometric, but after a hard workout I’m always too weak… so how can I incorporate handstand balance training into strength training?
sportsgirl, is that a serious answer?
you could put that in the aerobics section, and that helps you lose weight after you work out, it helps with that, and you could also just do it to work on blancing and things like that

How much cardio and strength training needed for weightloss?
I want to lose weight. I’m 140lbs, I want to go down to 130, preferably 125.
how many minutes of cardio should I do daily?
how many minutes of strength training?
There is no set value and it really depends on many factors….your diet, how active you are, your age, genetics, etc.
In general, you do not want to lose weight too fast. Assuming that you are eating pretty good, most people can lose weight with 40 minutes of cardio 3-4 times per week, and 40 minutes of strength training. You will hear slight differences, but this is a good general workout with moderate intensity.
Strength Training for Mental Toughness?
From http://ZachEven-Esh.com
In this Underground QnA I answer a question on a Hot Topic, Does strength training develop mental toughness, or do you need to go through hellish workouts?
I answer in the video and of course, it all depends on the person.
Some people have that innate toughness, born and bred into them, some must learn it, others acquire it as life goes on and they experience tough times.

At what age should kids start strength training?
At what age should kids start strength training?
i’d say the earliest should be about 15
some kids who are naturally broad and bulky i guess can start from 14 but usually 15
I’m in grade 12 and we had a discussion about this in my fitness class and the thing is, if they start too early, later on they will develop stretch marks on their skin and those won’t go away. There are actually several prime example of people in my school who started in grade 8 (age 14) and are already seeing stretch marks and improper posture because they started working out too early. Then you have those like me who actually started in Grade 9 (age 15) but who are perfectly fine.
What kind of strength training would you recommend for me?
I’m hoping to lose 20 – 30 lbs in 4 – 6 months (that would be 2 – 3 lbs per week). I feel that’s a reasonable goal. My husband and I recently got a treadmill and I’m working on my diet of course, but I read that you can lose weight better and get in better shape if you also do some strength training along with cardio. So what kind of strength training would you recommend? And how often should it be done? Thanks for your answers! ![]()
Hey there. First off, what you aim for is 1-2lbs per week. That’s a healthy pace. If you notice you’re losing weight at that rate you’re doing good.
There is a little truth to that, but weight loss mainly comes down to daily cardio and a healthy nutrition.
Run for 20-60 minutes on your treadmill and make sure you’re keeping your heart rate up.
Some basic strength exercises I would recommend you do are push ups, crunches, and pull ups. Very basic, very easy to do. That doesn’t mean they are not hard. But it’s easy to learn how to do them with good form.
3 sets of as many reps as you can do with good form 2-4 times a week or whatever suits you, remember to have a days rest in between each workout.
But you can do cardio 7 days a week if you can handle it.
You can look up some more strength exercises. But those 3 are good starters, if you don’t have a pull up bar, you can get one of those door mounted pull up bars that you can remove and stash under a bed or what not. Or maybe you have a beam or something around the house.
Remeber to eat healthy, good luck.
