Protein supplements and weight training?

I’ve just bought a large tub of whey powder to supplement my weight training programme. I want to lose fat and gain muscle. I train 3 times a week. Do I have to take the supplement every day or a glass just after training and a glass before I go to bed that night?

Best thing to do is a shake before and a shake after training. That way your muscles have access to all the protein they need immediately, for recovery (bioavailability).

It might be best to take it sometime after you’ve trained. I’ve heard that the body is receptive to incoming protein after a workout.

There is a misconception about when to take protein supplements. After training you should consume Carbs otherwise the body will use the protein for energy.
Follow the instructions on the tub.

After the workout is fine, you "may" want to take some when you wake up as your body hasn’t had anything to metabolize in 8 hours.

Just remember that all those products are over hyped by the manufacturer’s and the magazines that accept their advertising dollars. Back in the days of Steve Reeves they trained on bananas, milk and steaks. Then Joe Weider came along and said you need hundreds of grams of protein a day. Why? Because they hadn’t come up with Creatine, HMB, and all that other stuff yet. Meanwhile Arnold and all the other’s were on steroids, enabling them to put in twenty sets per body part.

Exercise on an empty stomach to awaken the gorwth hormone in your body. This hormone will enter the circuatory system towards the end of your exercise regimen. Now if you want to destroy this hormone, eat immediately after exercise is over. But to get the lasting benefits of the growth hormone, postpone eating for an hour. Consume plenty of protein, not carbs, at this time. You want to keep your glucose levels stable. Carbohydrates, also known as sugar to your body, will kick up your glucose levels. Choosing whey powder as a protein source is a good choice and can help you build muscle even when you are stationary. But make sure that you eat other forms of protein as well, such as meat and seafood.

    Good Luck to you,

depends how you want to play it? I’ve known people who take it every 2 hours, and i have also known people who drinl it after training only. Too much protein can damage your organs (liver in particular) – but alot of protein can be gained through diet.

The best bet would be to increase your training to 4 times a week and take the shake after training. Is your training programme asking the most of you??

well from my experience i take one protein shake a day but well if ur in a sport u definitely should take one a day but if ur not u should still be doin some cardio or basically running on the other days that u arent lifting on. take the protein once per day or if u want then take it twice on the days that u lift. the reason u should take it every day is because even when u dont know it ur body could still not be fully recovered and taking this protein shake on ur off days helps that and fights overtraining.
